Although there is still a little bit of twilight left in the direction of the sun, the auroras have made their appearance at the South Pole. And the winterover team was treated to several good displays this week. The image above shows auroras spreading across the sky over the Dark Sector. And below are shots of some squiggly auroras over the station’s entrance. At the bottom is a self portrait of this week’s photographer, IceCube winterover Stephan Richter. It’s dark out, though—so it could be anyone. Well, anyone at the South Pole.
