Well, there it is, the first plane to arrive at the South Pole for the season—a Basler. It only stopped long enough to refuel, but that was plenty of time to unload its precious cargo of fresh fruit. Apples, oranges, pineapples, carrots, bell peppers and avocados were all served up to the station’s winterovers who haven’t had fresh fruit in months. Another plane arrived later in the week whose pilot and crew spent the night, so fresh faces were also added to the mix. Last week, IceCube winterover Kathrin put in some hard work outside helping to mount a mirror for the BICEP experiment. They also wrapped up a large jigsaw puzzle, snapping a photo before disassembling and returning it to its box.
