Week 43 at the Pole
Perhaps school-age kids who develop the typical aversion to eating enough fruits and vegetables should be sent to the South Pole for a winter. That might get them to appreciate fresh produce. Without any flights coming and going to make deliveries during the winter, station personnel must do without the fresh stuff. But come summer, they eagerly await the first provisions of “freshies,” as they’re called at the Pole. Despite continuing delays last week, a couple more planes have come and gone, leaving a few new faces along with the stock of fresh fruit and bringing the station population to over 50. During the week, folks also dressed up and enjoyed a small Halloween party.
