Last week at the Pole brought a couple of rare (or first-time) events. First up, the fogbow. That’s right, not a rainbow but like a rainbow, in shape at least. Fogbows are much rarer than rainbows, but they’re not so unusual that folks at the Pole haven’t captured photos of them before. The second event is also rare at the Pole—a wedding. But in this case, it wasn’t just ceremonial but a legal marriage with an officiant, so it might be a first. In lieu of floral decorations, the wedding arch was festooned in colored coffee filters. You just have to get creative down there. Perhaps just as exciting (who’s to say), there was an open house at the IceCube Lab, which was a great success with lots of visitors and many questions.
