Week 43 at the Pole
It’s a harsh environment at the South Pole. And on windy days, you can really feel it—even in the photos. The flags at the ceremonial South Pole, above, really take a beating. But even smaller flags, like the ones along the flag lines below, don’t necessarily fare any better. That’s IceCube winterover John out adjusting the spacing of the flags for summer machine operations. Apart from the wind, it was relatively quiet last week at the Pole. The station’s fire team, including both of IceCube’s winterovers, posed for a group photo outside the station.
