Week 2 at the Pole

Rows of pea shoots just starting to sprout up in the greenhouse boxes.

There’s been activity of all kinds at the South Pole lately, but let’s not forget about the greenhouse. Volunteer training has begun, and if those strong looking shoots continue to grow nicely, they might be enjoying peas at the Pole in no time. Much of the other activity has been focused on the IceCube Upgrade project. Below we see the night installation crew in the IceCube Lab testing cables prior to deploying new modules on a string. They experienced some rare snowfall at the Pole last week, too. But the sun was out as well—below is a nice shot of it in partly cloudy conditions, with a barely discernible halo and sun dog seen in the break between the clouds.
