Last week was very busy with computer upgrades, including operating system and firmware updates along with lots of machine rebooting. A challenging task, the “reboot-athon” was split up over several days. IceCube’s winterovers and seasonal crew welcomed additional arrivals last week. They also watched the South Pole Overland Traverse, or SPOT, arrive, laden with cargo and fuel for the season. The SPOT convoys generally take several weeks or more to journey from McMurdo Station to the Pole. The return trip, without their load, is much faster. The bottom image shows the living quarters for the SPOT team, which they showed off to curious visitors while they were stationed there.
