Week 51 at the Pole

Another week, another sun halo—this time complete with sun dogs! The ceremonial pole marker blocking the sun gives some added interest to the photo’s composition. Last week was busy at the Pole, especially out at the IceCube Lab, where all kinds of work was going on, including for ARA, IceAct, IceCube’s surface array, and the IceCube Upgrade. Below, IceCubers are seen gathered around the location of the next drill hole, while others are surveying conditions around a vertical tower, where new cables will be pulled through, before the trench gets dug out by machinery. Out on the ice, the new Upgrade cables are stored on large spools, all wrapped up and waiting on palettes. Near the station, two snow angels were “found” out in the snow.
