Week 29 at the Pole

Star trails above the IceCube Lab.

Last week’s continued good weather brought many of the South Pole’s winterovers outdoors to take photos of the skies. IceCube winterover Connor made a two-hour time-lapse video of the sky above the IceCube Lab (ICL), from which the image above, with bright star trails, and the image below, with the Milky Way showing more clearly, were taken. It was generally a busy week for IceCube’s winterovers, with a number of trips out to the ICL as well as to the surface array for continued work on the IceAct telescope. The station rounded out the week with a hot sauce tasting event. Maybe it was just a good excuse to fry up some chicken.
