Week 37 at the Pole

Just because the sun’s coming up, doesn’t mean it’s getting warmer yet. In fact, they’ve had some tremendously cold days at the Pole, with the thermometer hitting –100 F last week. IceCube winterover Raffaela hiked out to the tourist camp, now buried in snow, in –94 F weather, and then snapped an image of her frosty self afterward (below). The station deep-cleaning continued last week, with the galley being completed as the largest milestone so far. In celebration, they held a Happy Pizza dinner for everyone.
