Last week at the Pole, the weather was perfect for starting out the second half of winter—cold but calm conditions, with some of the prettiest auroras. But as glorious as auroras can be, sometimes you’re just trying to capture the Milky Way, and you might actually complain (gasp!) when some auroras get in your way. The detector was mostly quiet last week, too. Perhaps it was a bit of a “calm before the storm” of IceCube’s big announcement.
