Week 45 at the Pole

Flight canceled? Well, that happens. But, canceled … again? Welcome to plane travel at the Pole. The changeable weather patterns in the harsh climate of Antarctica make flights in and out susceptible to delays. It’s part and parcel of the whole experience. But when you’ve already spent a good year there, and it’s time for you to head home, flight delays can be all the more disappointing. Just ask James, Martin, and some of their past season’s cohorts, who’ve been stuck at the South Pole for a while waiting for weather to clear at McMurdo.

In the meantime, Raffaela and Johannes, shown above at the IceCube Lab, have been settling in nicely, including pitching in with dish pit duties. Raffaela captured some nice photos of sun dogs, as well.
