Week 40 at the Pole

A relatively quiet week for the IceCube detector, but busy in general for the station. It’s that time of year, post sunrise, when preparations for summer arrivals are in full swing. There are skiways and taxiways in need of grooming and a fuel pit to set up, getting ready for the season’s first incoming flights. Clear weather and a bright sun show off a faint sun dog and a nice halo in the images below. The top photo shows the winterover crew gathered at the geographic South Pole for their annual group shot.
