Week 25 at the Pole

As a thank you for the fine midwinter dinner put together by the galley crew, the scientists at the Pole took their turn at meal preparation. First up was pizza night, with lots of different toppings, including a duck-honey-hoisin pizza that garnered some praise. On another night, IceCube’s winterovers along with a fellow German on another experiment tried their hand at making homemade Leberkäse, a German specialty that translates as liver cheese but contains neither of those ingredients. It is apparently somewhat of an acquired taste according to certain factions of the station personnel. Besides maintaining the IceCube detector, last week also had the winterovers involved in a technically challenging fire rescue practice and in their continued efforts at unicycling (and aurora viewing!).
