Week 47 at the Pole

The South Pole is not immune to trash. Trash accumulates there just as it does anywhere else. At the Pole, however, there are strict policies in place for dealing with and getting rid of waste. With exceptions for sewage and liquid waste, everything else is sorted, packaged, and shipped back off the continent. Last week started with a big clean-up at the IceCube Lab (ICL). That’s IceCube winterover Camille posing on the sled with all the trash they collected from the ICL. If we didn’t know better, we might think she’s playing Santa with a sled of bundled up toys (though it’s a far cry from this imposter’s load). The rest of the week included receiving a group of tourists on a brief visit and enjoying a fantastic Thanksgiving celebration.
