IceCube Collaboration spring meeting

The Wisconsin IceCube Particle Astrophysics Center (WIPAC) is pleased to host the international IceCube Collaboration for the annual spring meeting May 07-11, 2013. The meeting, held at Union South on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus, features talks from nearly 200 physicists and engineers responsible for the IceCube Neutrino Detector and related projects.

The meeting also includes public engagement events at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. On May 08, former IceCube winterover Freija Descamps will give a public talk on what it is like to spend the long, dark winter working at the South Pole in Antarctica. The free event starts at 6:00pm with hands-on activities for all ages, and Descamps’ talk begins at 7:00pm.

Also in town for the meeting are artists Jean Michel Crettaz and Mark-David Hosale with the interactive exhibit Quasar 2.0: Star Incubator. The exhibit uses cosmic ray data from IceCube and real-time information from people around the installation to produce unique patterns of sound and light.
