Week 49 at the Pole

An action-packed week with summer activities in full swing. There was lots of work in the field—digging, measuring, installing equipment. After all the hard work, there’s nothing like climbing onto something tall—like a cable spool or a giant snow hill—for a a good view of things. Also, the first South Pole traverse arrived, bringing about 100,000 gallons of fuel from McMurdo. They held an open house at their camp and told stories of their 1000-mile trip. Indoors, winterover Kathrin gave an IceCube presentation to NSF visitors, and IceCuber Delia held a weekly science lecture in the galley.
