Scientific Data Processing Programmer
With 2500 events detected each second, IceCube produces nearly 1 TB of data per day, 100 GB of which are transferred via satellite to the UW data center. These data are processed through sophisticated and time-consuming reconstruction algorithms in a distributed computing environment. At the same time, large volumes of simulated detector data are produced for data analysis and interpretation of detector response. Prompt processing of both is necessary to guarantee streamlined data analysis and publication of physics results. This processing utilizes numerous computing clusters and supercomputers across the world (e.g. Open Science Grid and XSEDE).
