- Abstract:The current generation of LIGO interferometers have reached their
sensitivity goal. A radically improved set of interferometers is being designed
with the aim of increasing the sensitivity to gravitational wave strains by more
than a factor of ten and increasing the reach to 1000+ solar mass black holes. It is expected that these next generation gravitational wave observatories will
mark the beginning of the age of gravitational wave astronomy with ~daily detecctions of sources. A description of the new interferometers will be given and potential challenges will be addressed.
